When I phoned the CSA on Wednesday their incompetence left me stunned. They were refusing to speak to me because they thought I’d record the phone call and embarrass them. Well, as they’re trying to steal money from me that I simply don’t owe them, refusing to speak to me AND can’t get my address right they’ve left me with no choice.

Poor guy on the phone tho…caught in the middle of all of this. If this story gets profile, I dont hold out too much hope of him keeping his job after letting that address blunder out of the bag even though his system told him that you record your calls. Bad move.

Hmmm.. Something doesn’t quite add up here does it?. You say that half the mortgage £325 is more than 25% of your monthy income.
This would mean even your net monthly would be less than £1300pm.

I had taken into account tax and deductions and working with £325 as 25% of your NET monthly income as clearly stated on my message.
I have no problem with the maths mate.
For someone who is “an Affiliate Marketeer, SEO, web developer and all round Internet personage. I work for a leading Internet Marketing firm and run a network of content websites” being asked for £550 should be no problem at all.
The CSA have also taken into account tax and deductions, and they’ve arrived at the figure of £320. The £550 is because they think I’m in arrears for the last year. As I’ve been paying her mortgage, I’m not in arrears.
Personally I don’t fancy paying out £870 per month to my ex-wife, which is what I would be paying if the CSA had their way and I continued to pay her mortgage.
Can your maths understand that?
Get yourself a life, you weren’t against getting your missus up the duff, so face up to your responsibilities. There are too many non resident parents in this country who are refusing to pay. I hope the C.S.A use the powers they have to make you pay! As for recording phone calls, these people are just doing their job to provide for their families.

Recording phone calls is my right. I’d recommend everyone do it, you’d be surprised the positive effect it has when companies realise you’re doing it.

Missing letters and paying your ex-partners mortgage have nothing to do with it. Paying a mortgage doesnt reduce your maintenance pound for pound: you might qualify for a small reduction in maintenance via a departure, but in the eyes of ‘the law’, its not a substitute for maintenencae calculated by the CSA. Many non resident parents pay both anyway.

I have a coworker who has no end of troubles with the CSA. He found out that the letters they sent out actually get sent to a separate department for typing up and sending, which is presumably where the errors are introduced. If they just printed the label direct from the database there would not be as many problems. It reeks of incompetence and beaurocracy.

[..YouTube..] Warrants are common practice in the UK and have been for years. see the Interception of Communications Act 1985 and Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 for more information specific to phone tapping warrants.

As for phones, your perfectly within your rights to record and publish, everyone should record CSA if they must talk to them, they lie, cheat, make deals they don’t keep, threaten and abuse their victims.

I have been with my partner for 7 years,he was divorced already,his ex had the house paid for in full a people carrier to ferry her other kids and his about and all her debts paid off when they split,(promising that was enough and she would never contact the csa) my partner was doing the right thing or so he thought!! for 6of those years he has not seen his kids she sold up took all the equity from the home and dissapeared,she randomly contacts the csa to enquire about his earning on a whim which results in extra money for her.The kids recently got in touch with him and she has now messed it up again by requesting what his earning are?,she is a sick greedy individual who puts money before her kids.My partner has always faced his financial responsibilities but with the continual “cock ups the csa make and the blatent disregard for any prior payments/agreements that have been made, it makes it extremley difficult to stay reasonable.
We have had compensation in the past from the csa by writing recorded delivery to the chairman and involving him personally in there hideous mistakes. dont trust them or ever give up,I have found when really challenged you can wear them down. How easy was it to get that guy to talk to you even when clearly he knew he should not?. Keep your chin up and keep fighting mate for what is right.

I just watched your clip, brilliant. I’m going through the same just now, £18k bill sent to me, on investigation I was then told by the CSA its actually £26k+. The phone opperators do not care about circumstances, previous debt carried or money already paying to the ex-wife/kids.
I will be recording any further conversations, although it’s a shame I did not record the last one, the opperator told me
“bascially you are stuffed and have to pay what we say regardless if the demand is wrong, you did not write to us within 28-days of the demand to dispute, therefore the demand stands in CSA ‘law’, we don’t care if you are still paying this when your kids are 25 years old”
I’m a 40 year old professional, I could not beleive what was being said to me by a 20-22 year old failed telesales opperator, who obviously has targets to meet and the unreasonable power of the CSA as backing.
Even trying to explain the facts of my case, give dates of written responses, dates of phone calls and who with, confirm details are logged in their system and then ask for a review – the answer is “no chance, we have been told to come down hard on everyone – you have to pay – contact your MP – complain – keep paying what we say – appeal – keep paying what we say”
