My ex is a bitch

I’ve been getting emails lately to do with a website about jilted Ex’s. Seems this is a website that allows unhappy guys with axes to grind to upload photos of their ex-girlfriends and tell the world what they think of them.

Now, for some reason this site has a link here as though I’d built it! It’s nothing to do with me; I can assure you of that. So if you’ve got some grievance with this website, I can’t help you.

Funny site though!

Platinax Business Forum

Fed up working for the man? Want to be your own boss? Want to turn up to work naked and drink wine all day?

Well, the last one aside those are genuine aspirations of many people working in today’s workplace. The trouble is becoming your own boss, setting up your own business and going it alone can be a daunting experience.

Luckily there are many websites out there that can offer you advice, help and other likeminded individuals willing to share their experiences and knowledge. Platinax Business Forum is one such place, a forum for entrepreneurs to share their ideas and experiences with each other.

The forum features sections such as business start up advice, legal advice, financing and of course everyone’s favourite online buzz term at the moment; search engine optimization (note that’s optimization with a ‘z’ not an ‘s’).

The website itself is a business portal for those wishing to make their dreams a reality and earn the kind of money they think they deserve, and the forum is full of helpful information on achieving this.

With just over 4,000 members the forum isn’t the biggest of its kind, but at least its relatively small size means your voice won’t get lost in the crowd.

Fancy some free stuff?

Sponsored Review

If like me you love loads of pointless free stuff (and let’s face it, who the monkey in hell doesn’t?) you’ll be interested a site that gives away stuff with no catch.
Sounds like right old load of politician’s promises doesn’t it? Well the website is called whogets.com, and the system is simple. You register for an account, pick what free stuff you want and then add your name to the pool. Contestants, or blaggers of free stuff as like to call them, are then randomly selected to the ‘semi final’ draw, where you make a short statement about why you should win, and the rest is up to the public to vote.

Surely it can’t be this simple?

Well, it is. Of course the more friends or online communities you belong to the more likely you are to win, as by sending over your army of hoodlums to vote for you will surely help you bring home the proverbial bacon.

Prizes range from $10 to a more substantial $600 and include things such as video games and mobile phones.

I’m heading over there now for some cheapskate Christmas shopping, but as my shopping list consists solely of things for me I should do quite well out of it!

Google search results change

As Just Search reported last week, Google has changed the way it displays its results to encorporate videos, news, images and blogs into its normal results.

How does this effect things for the rest of us? Well, I didn’t like the idea at first because it means search results will be more competative and it’ll be harder to get that front page for searches like ‘Transformers’. However, a quick Google on my own name (see, I do this a lot) shows a rather funky video of me.

I’ve changed my mind, I quite like it now.

Logo Tree Logo Design

Sponsored Review

The first impression anyone gets of your company image tends to be your business logo, take Mr Daz for example. Our logo was based on a caricature by local Welsh designer Aled Williams and captures the essence of our site perfectly… whatever that may be.

If you’re looking for logo design the other side of the pond however you could try Logo Tree. Their site features a huge list of logo samples; all of them pretty top quality. A logo designer stands and falls by the quality of their work, and you can view all of their recent work in their gallery here.

Logo Tree

Unlike some secretive designers Logo Tree’s website features an explanation of the design process, so you know just how much work goes into the creation of your logo and what you’re paying for at the end of the day. I’ve know some designers to copy their designs out of books, so it’s nice to see some methodology in these guys work.

One of the best features of Logo Tree is that they offer animated logos, perfect for websites or media companies.

Prices start at just under $600 for their ‘essential package’ and feature 9 different logos to choose from. See their full range of prices here.

I’ve found a website I like, shock horror

It’s not often I post something positive here, so pay attention when I do. I’ve come across a website from a design agency based in New York and it’s bloody amazing.

Dizzain

http://www.dizzain.com

Rather than just being a nice looking site (as you’d hope the website for a design agency would be) it’s also well built and constructed in SEO terms. Something most design agencies have no conept of.

Top marks to these guys.

GoStats Web Stats

I’m going to preach to you now. Preach the importance of web stats. Many people run their own websites using Adsence, Amazon ads or some other affiliate advertising yet have no idea how much traffic they’re receiving, or where it’s coming from.

How can you expect to get the most from your website if you don’t what your visitors are looking for when they find you? What pages they’re coming in on, and where they’re coming from? It’s like running a business without ever looking at your sales figures. It’s the ultimate in stupidity.

Luckily there are loads of different websites and packages out that offer you comprehensive stats on your website’s traffic. One such site is GoStats.com. GoStats web stats offer a free basic counter for you to keep tabs on your traffic levels, but for the more in-depth traffic analysis you’ll need to convert your visitors into cash you’ll want the full version, which has three subscription pricing tiers.

You can subscribe to the counter for a month, 6-month or yearly period depending on your budget.

Of course you may be asking what does GoStats do that the newly revamped Google Analytics doesn’t already do, and for free to boot? Well, GoStats does offer the inclusion of your website in its top sites directory list, which is a high PR list thus worth the effort in itself; however for pure features in statistics analysis it’s worth trying both GoStats web stats demo and Google Analytics first, before you buy.
