Google’s foremost blog merchant Matt Cutts announced a while back that Google would be clamping down on sites that buy and sell links in order to boost their Page Rank. The SEO community was divided on the boast, with critics claiming Google could never tell if a link was paid for.
Well, Google has today added a section to their webmaster tools where you can report sites that buy and sell links.
That could prove interesting, with webmasters all stabbing one another in the back.
As Just Search reported last week, Google has changed the way it displays its results to encorporate videos, news, images and blogs into its normal results.
How does this effect things for the rest of us? Well, I didn’t like the idea at first because it means search results will be more competative and it’ll be harder to get that front page for searches like ‘Transformers’. However, a quick Google on my own name (see, I do this a lot) shows a rather funky video of me.
My ongoing battle to get DVD Reviews website WhatDVD.Net to rank in Google for the search term DVD Reviews is starting to reap rewards. It’s now page 2 of Google.com for DVD Reviews.
I’m excited, you should be too. I will get it page 1, bank on it!
My Google Bomb of illiterate solicitor for those monkies who are aiding the ex wife has gone #1 across the board. That’s Google, Yahoo and MSN. What I like to call a full house of SEO cards.
Why did I do this? For a giggle. How did I do this? Now that would be telling.
My Google Bomb landed on Yahoo earlier this week, and now it’s hit its target of Google itself. A search for illiterate solicitor brings up the ex wife’s (feels good to finally say that, ex wife) solicitor Everett Tomlin Lloyd and Twat at #1 in Google.
Google has just altered its search algorithym to negate the effects of ‘Google Bombing’ on certain phrases, most notable the term ‘Miserable Failure‘ that famously brought up George W Bush’s profile on the White House website as the #1 result.
Google say in their webmaster blog that they’ve only handled a handful of Google Bombs in their ‘automated’ system. Thankfully, my Google Bomb for Darren Joslin remains intact, so I won’t worry about Google’s actions causing me problems anytime soon.
It seems my early rejoice at the Google PR update was premature (the only thing about me that is, I assure you!).
The update is still going on as far as visible toolbar PR goes, and you can see the fluctuations here with this funky tool: http://livepr.raketforskning.com.
MrDaz.com has a PR 4 on many Google servers, which is cause for a drink!
I just logged onto my Google hompage to check my feeds from the variety of crap websites I like to get my daily fix of junk from, and I noticed they’ve updated the way they get the feeds.
Notably, they’ve created a little + sign that allows you to view the description, which has a spanking effect on the feed from Yourcarisshit.com. I’ve been working on this feed for some time, wanting to get the car images fed through – and now it does! Check it out:
The feed itself isn’t available from the website yet, as it’s undergoing a radical upgrade to make it 70% more offensive – but should be done by the weekend.
Shit cars direct to your homepage, how cool is that?
