I’m counting the days until I can tell BT to fuck off

I’m moving house very soon, and in the new home I’ll be getting Virgin Media for the TV, phone and broadband. This means that, finally, I can rid my life of the incompetent bunch of lying bastards that call themselves BT.

As this blog has chronicled over the years, BT have consistently managed to fall short of acceptable service, lying to me in emails and on the phone, being deceptive over prices and even stealing money from my account.

All of this I could have overlooked, if their broadband had actually been any good. However, it’s not. Their broadband is atrociously bad. It’s slow, intermittent and overpriced. I’m currently paying over £120 per quarter for Internet and phone, and I don’t ever use the phone.

BT are a joke, and as soon as I get a completion date on my move I can finally call BT (obviously waiting several hours on hold before I get through) to tell them where they can stick their pathetic excuse for a service.

I will of course record the call for everyone’s pleasure, and upload it here if it’s humorous enough.

Bye bye BT, bye bye.

  1. Mate those thieving scumbags stole HUNDREDS of pounds from me.

    Basically I moved house, and phoned up to tell them I was moving. And instead of moving my account, they set me up a brand new one, and kept the old one running. Errrwhat. It was months before I even noticed, being the slack bastard I am.

    Then when I finally FINALLY got through to someone who could understand why this made me angry (took a month of phoning them up every day several times a day, costing me god knows how much more) they apologised and promised to refund me.

    Guess what they did. Took another hundred quid out of my account. I want to start a comms business, you can just thieve money and nobody will listen, care or stick up for the poor wretches you rape. They’ll boil in their own filth for eternity mate, I don’t actually believe in hell, but I’ll see to it myself if I have to.

  2. Heh – I found your site as someone in my ISP’s official IRC support channel asked how he would cope when the MD goes on holiday, as he will be without the rants about BT’s (wholesale) broadband service.

    I suggested a link to Google for “angry bt rants” and this blog entry showed up. I see you haven’t updated since January because VM have screwed you around so much your Internet is completely dead 😉

  4. Thanks for the comments Adam. Yes, I am indeed updating happily with Virgin Media (bar the odd complaint) and compared to BT, Virgin are like messengers of the gods bringing Ambrosia and wine.

    I don’t miss BT, they were unrealistically shit.

  5. I’ve just ditched the incompetents at BT too. I’ve had to place god knows how many calls over the past year about line dropouts (which plays havoc with online gaming as you can imagine) and the drones from India always blame my home cabling. I’ve worked for a telco so I know there is nothing wrong with it. The last call I placed, the drone did admit there was a fault on the line, and it miraculously started working properly soon after. For two days. Then it went back to being shit. So, bye BT, hello Cable. Thank God I’ve still got the cabling still in place from when Diamond Cable used to have the franchise around here. Oh and fuck off BT.

  6. How’s this for typical arroagant lying bastards (BT). I got an email on 9th April saying I had used 7GB of my 10GB allowance, not too worrying as my month runs from the 11th. On the 10th of April they say my usage is 29GB. On phoning to get this checked, I am told they cannot be wrong and argued that I had used 19GB in a day, which is fucking impossible on the 7MB maximum speed I am on. I have over a year to go, but will be glad to be rid of the lying robbing bastards.

  7. I’ve just been on the phone to BT who were trying to sell me on a new “cheaper” broadband package. In the middle of the call the guy let slip that I am getting one sixth of the speed originally quoted to me, lied that Virgin cannot offer me speeds equal or better than BT, lied flat out about the maximum speed my line can support (even when confronted with the names of various speed check sites I have used myself and the results of the same), denied there was a problem with my line even though it drops out at least five times a day (this was after he said he had nothing to do with the technical side of the business and couldn’t answer my questions, wtf?), informs me that if I want to move to another company I have to pay £7 a month for the remainder of a call package I did not renew (works out at £77), admitted that their TV package was inferior to that of Virgin and that I would need to spend alot of money on a new TV aerial to even recieve their crappy TV service and then tried to sell me a complete phone, TV and broadband package which costs more than Virgin’s superior package and almost as much as I’m paying for BT phone and broadband and my seperate Sky TV package put together. How the fuck do they get away with this? They’ve been ripping off my mother as well, overcharging on bills, not giving her the internet service they said she would get and being bloody useless when we try and complain. I’m going Virgin, but my mother is staying with BT because, “it would be too much hassle to change over.”
    These fuckers need to be stopped. People need to realise BT do not have a complete monopoly any more and they can get better service elsewhere. BT will change their fucking attitude right sharpish when people realise this and abandon their shitty company in their fucking droves.

  8. Has anyone actually managed to get away from BT? I’ve been struggling for months now, have spend hours and hours trying to get sense out of them, and am still waiting for my third MAC code to try and transfer to another supplier. No wonder people find staying ‘less hassle’. However, I shall continue on principle. I believe it was BT systems that prompted the storyline about ‘Skynet’ from the ‘Terminator’ series and how it became ‘self-aware’. Let’s hope BT’s systems destroy them in the same way!

  9. funny i got away but i had to go and get some brilliant voluntary help who did all the donkey work.top top people…..BT how the fuck do they get away with their scams? everything i used of theirs was jeckle as fuck my broadband i couldent use for the last few months with them,but it seemed like a halfway house because my email address was being used blah blah,then it was the phone ha ha its funny ,even to me.i had been tryin to get help with PC but impossible so the automated bitch it was i did my best to say it wasnt the phone but they text me saying 2 engineers are on to fix my phone-fuck all wrong with it,i got text updates for 2 days then told me they fixed it but the money over bills was as though i had let everyone use my phone.good luck,im still hoping to get one back on em ..ta ra

  12. I am also counting the days until i can leave BT. I have about one year left of a 24 month contract and I can’t wait to phone them up and tell them where they can stick their bt infinity.

I notice they (Bt Open Reach) do not provide any other provider (Talk Talk etc etc) with information on what lines have been installed for new housing developments …….so the competition can’t provide you a service (when calling for a new service)….funnily enough BT allow you to enter new house number into their website & when calling them when purchasing Brandband/TV/phone service from them….(because they own the copper to you property). They are also able to give you an install date…..bottom line is for new build properties…they’re the only ones able to give you a new line….& no one else. I can only assume they are withholding new connection/line information for new build properties which they do not provide to anyone else so they are able to provide phone & broadband services.

    No matter what you do….you can’t get Talk Talk or any service provider to give you a new line/broadband service….New providers check your address on the post office website…but they go BT OpenReach on a portal to check what copper is connected to the local exchange which is owned by BT….millions of new home owners aren’t being given the opportunity of go to anyone else but BT …first…once the line is connected…OpenReach announce the line is available for service. I have tried this with my new build property No xxx postcode rh1 xxx….today 29th june I was given an install date of the 16th July……yet talk talk & any one else were not even able to give me a date as to when they could start processing an order….until they’re able to see my line for xxx available for service….which BT control

    I’ve raised this with communication Ombudsman & will be sending a copy to Talk Talk Market & sales director to apply more pressure on this scandalous behaviour

I am also pissed off with BT, they can’t even get it right that I’m out of contract 0 which I have been for over a year… apparently they use 2 systems – ‘agents and 1 view’… one one I am in, one one I am out. And when I ‘phone them I usually wait around 20 minutes to soeak to some mumbling idiot who reads off a script then forwards me to someone ‘who can help’ = another wait for an ‘agent’ to come on line.
    Never again… 110 a quarter to bt for what I can get from several other providers for about 40 quid less.

  15. I only managed to quit BT after a long involved Ombudsman complaint.

    And they paid me compensation.

    I will never have anything to do with them again- they are liars and thieves, lazy and just generally fucking useless wankers.

  16. I thought it must be me, but reading these comments, I can see that the disgusting thieving and incompetant “service” I have experienced from BT appears to be their standard. It’s time this is exposed surely.

I could spend ages typing out the boring saga of how BT and their even more evil sidekick BT Openreach have continuously lied to me and wasted my time whilst failing to provide me with a telephone or internet connection since I moved into a new house FIVE MONTHS AGO, whilst still taking money from my account on a regular basis. But let me just summarise: BT are CUNTS .

  18. I have the same problem. And the worst part is that the cables in my area (owned by BT) are shit. We have emailed them hundreds of times and even organised several petitions but they still only put infinity in seemingly everywhere except where I live. They put it in an area where there are only five houses two of which don’t even use the internet. My consistently shit speeds remains at about 20kb/s which is not good because I am (or at least try to be) an online gamer. Frankly I’m not sure if this comment will even actually send but if it does then yay.

  19. I will add my 2 cents just for humour value here for anyone else stressed to the eyeballs with the Fuckers at BT and doing lots of Wooooooo Saaaaaaaaaaa’ing (with obligatory ear pulling ;-).

    Called up the Customer Incompetence Team (sorry – Options Team) to ask why I had an FUP charge on my bill. Apparently it was for going over my Unlimited broadband limit – go figure. Asked why my regrade to Unlimited hadn’t taken place when requested 2 months prior and was told it was because their billing system was not talking to their provisioning system (the girl in question was actually making this sound like this was in some way my fault!!!). This was on the 29th of MAY by the way. I contacted numerous times to resolve with no solution of any sort. In the meantime they have sent me a new router I don’t want and never asked for, an appropriate bill for the thing and a one off charge of £30 for changing my phone line – Hughhh?? On the 2nd Sept, got a bill for ceasing my BB service early (WTF???) and a few other one off charges (and some more FUP charges for good measure) all amounting to £286!!! I duly called up yet again to be told all billing would be put on hold until it was all resolved and a manager would contact me before anything further happened….. Get back from holiday to discover I have been relieved of £286 by BT and obviously no call back. Called again to be told that there systems we actually now talking and something could be done – holy fucking shit! So apparently my unlimited broadband is actually that, billing are going to refund the bill and a manger is going to call me in the next 10 days to discuss compensation for the insane amount of time I have taken out of my life to sort this shit…. A) I seriously doubt any of the above is actually going to happen and B) If there was even a company where I live that offered the services I need (I suppose at least I do get that for now…) I would move at twice the price!

    I would not be surprised at this point if an engineer appeared in 2 weeks to install RedCare or some other shit I don’t want, never asked for but almost certainly have been fucking billed for.

  21. Had similar problems with BT since upgrading to BT Infinity, loss of speed and or service, long boring calls to someone in India to fix problem.
    But each time Openeach go to DSLAM cabinet 40 feet from my door matters just get worse.
    Never gets resolved just want to charge more money by me going on next service level.
